Nasri In, Hleb out! Do we call this progress?

July 11, 2008

Arsenal today officially announced the signing of Samir Nasri for an  undisclosed fee.

With the state that our club is in, this couldnt have happened unless Barcelona had handed us the cash for Hleb. Why else has it taken us so long to complete this signing? What is bothering me is not so much that we are losing Hleb (it does bother me) but the fact that we are in such terrible financial situation that we cannot buy a £12 million player without selling one of our own. Pay attention to the chain of events.

Hleb announces his desire to leave we become interested in Nasri. Barcelona show interest in Arshavin suddenly the Nasri transfer comes to a stalemate so does the Hleb transfer. Barcelona bid twice for Arshavin and fail. Suddenly Hleb is on his way to Barcelona. As soon as that happens we sign Nasri.

The Hleb deal must have been completed. Like Wenger said we are a selling club. It is a shame and an insult to our club. Even Spuds are not a selling club. Why dont we have any money? After charging fans the highest ticket prices in the country why are we skint? Where is all the money going?

Coming back to the main point. Is it progress when we sell one of our established player at the peak of his powers for a player who is unknown in the EPL? He will take 6 months to adapt. We might be out of the EPL by that time. Why dont we ever build on our successes? Since the Invincibles were dismantled we have seen more players out and less players in. Established players out and youth players in. I am fed up, sick and tired. I am sick and tired of seeing my club being used as a stepping stone by players who want to join Barcelona and Real Madrid.

I am fed up of losing our big players at their peak to clubs like Barcelona. I am fed up of waiting for young unknown players to grow up only to leave us for Barcelona, AC Milan, Real Madrid e.t.c.
